Description
Steeped in history, the Aaqcha or Akcha (Persian spelling) rug is a simple version of the Khal Mohammadi rug design, and originates from around the Aq Chah region in northern Afghanistan. These hand-knotted masterpieces are warm and welcoming with their red hues, often accented with dark blue or black used for detail.
Various vegetable, and other natural dyes are used to produce the rich colours, and although many patterns and colours are used, the traditional, and most typical pattern, is almost always one form of repeated columns of ‘gul’ or ‘fil pai’ (elephant footprint), often with a red background.
Aaqcha rugs are made from 100% wool and offer a charming focal point and cause for conversation, as you will never know the exact origin or history of each piece.
